Michael Lewis: "A Simple Plan to Save the World"

Michael Lewis, Explainer-in Chief-of the financial World in his Liar’s Poker, The Big Short, and Flash Boys, has done it again. In a few hundred words, Lewis concisely describes “a simple plan to save the world” as outlined by Mervyn King in his book, The End of Alchemy. Governor of the Bank of England 2003 - 2013, King has a single-focus mission as per Lewis: “the way we do banking needs to change.” In his Bloomberg Businessweek "View" essay, Lewis goes on to analyze King’s “powerful idea for how to change it,” but to also list the potential effects of the “King Rule.” Needless to say, the plan is not “simple” at all, but Lewis makes it understandable—and seem do-able.
