APPA 2014 Attendees Learn from Trane How Energy Efficiency, Training and Evolving Tech Can Revitalize Educational Facilities

Jul 17, 2014 10:00 AM ET

San Diego, July 17, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Managers and administrators of educational facilities are under constant pressure to provide an enriching learning environment while balancing resources to improve aging campus infrastructure and inefficient buildings.

Experts from Trane will participate in a panel discussion and case study presentation at APPA 2014, held July 21-23 in San Diego at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina, to discuss the most current and pressing challenges facing educational facilities and solutions to help fix those problems. Trane is a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand.

Keven Ward, public sector consultant for Trane, together with two Washburn University/Tech representatives will present a case study about how recently completed improvements at Washburn University and Washburn Tech are expected to generate $618,000 in annual energy savings. The improvements, funded with an energy performance contract, included energy efficient lighting, water, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades, window and door replacements, and a campus-wide building automation system – all designed to optimize energy and operational efficiencies while improving classroom comfort.

Participants will learn how energy savings projects on campus can simultaneously enhance the learning environment and help fund long-term capital plans. The session will also address how to form partnerships with business and industry to transform outdated training facilities and curriculum.
