Dallas, July 30, 2013 /3BL Media/ - AT&T* has updated its Carbon Impact Assessment Tool, expanding its reporting capabilities to include the ability to estimate the financial and greenhouse gas impacts of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions including asset management, transportation and smart grid. The new tool also estimates savings associated with a migration to cloud computing.

The tool was first launched in July, 2011 and focused on remote working solutions, including AT&T Connect, AT&T Telepresence Solution® and AT&T Remote Access Service.  The expansion of the tool into additional solution areas supports the growing discussion around the intersection of technology and sustainability.

“Changing a business process to run more efficiently and lessen its impact on the environment was previously considered a ‘nice thing’ to do,” says Simon McPhillips, AVP, Product Marketing Management, AT&T Business Solutions.  “We now know that automating business processes with technology like M2M helps those processes run more efficiently, which in turn use fewer natural resources and eases environmental impact.  The idea that reducing a company’s environmental impact is not only good for the community but is also good for a company’s bottom line is starting to take hold.”

It can be challenging for business customers to estimate the financial and environmental benefits of a technology solution like M2M, but this analysis is necessary to make an informed purchasing decision.  The tool provides quantification of carbon emissions avoided and cost savings associated with implementing solutions by applying best practice calculations and estimates to customer-provided information.
