ATLANTA, April 30, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Balfour Beatty Construction’s Georgia Division has been recognized for its use of sustainable technologies and awarded the Green Tech/Clean Tech award by Cobb County’s Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented at a recent Cobb Chamber First Monday Breakfast, where the chamber presented its Cutting EDGE Technology Awards to three Cobb businesses. Balfour Beatty’s Georgia Division has been a resident of Cobb County for over a decade.

Cobb Chamber awarded companies with its Cutting EDGE Awards for the innovative use of high-end technologies in their industries. Balfour Beatty’s recognition centered on its use of digital documents – the company’s own cloud-based technology system that provides a single information source throughout all phases of construction – to reduce a wide variety of construction inefficiencies.

In the project environment, digital documents are continuously updated and distributed as information changes, ensuring project teams are always working off of the most current set of plans. These documents provide real-time and up-to-date information to all team members including architects, subcontractors and owners, in an environmentally sustainable format. Not only does the technology introduce great efficiencies to project teams, it also significantly reduces the amount of paper and printing costs traditionally associated with continuously changing project plans.

Among Balfour Beatty’s many current projects across Cobb County, Teasley Elementary School is one that’s benefitting from the implementation of digital documents and cloud technology. To date, the project is two months ahead of schedule thanks, in part, to the efficiencies enabled by the project team’s use of cloud technologies and digital documents.

“At Balfour Beatty, we continuously seek ways to improve processes and innovate as part of our ongoing commitment to eliminating waste and inefficiency from the construction industry,” said Mike Macon, vice president of Balfour Beatty Construction’s Georgia Division. “Cloud technologies and digital documents offer great value to our projects, enabling our teams to operate more efficiently and cost effectively in a more environmentally sustainable way. We’re honored to receive this recognition which acknowledges our commitment to continuous improvement and is a testament to the valued partnership we have with Cobb County.”

The Cutting EDGE Technology Awards recognize Cobb-based companies that excel in manufacturing, processing or utilizing high-end technology in innovative ways. The Chamber recognizes the significance of technology to commerce, economic growth and prosperity, and awards exceptional companies that have shown their partnership to the vitality of Cobb County through their commitment to innovation. Award winners were selected by qualified industry professional judges.
