Meet the footwear designers of tomorrow, who spent three months at Timberland’s HQ in Stratham, NH as part of the DiverCity x DESIGN program, in partnership with PENSOLE Academy™ and its founder, Dr. D'Wayne Edwards .

With a goal of cultivating and advancing BIPOC talent within the footwear industry, DiverCity x DESIGN presents a rare opportunity for five individuals to undergo a year-long apprenticeship learning everything there is to know about footwear design while experiencing the unique cultures at three VF brands: Timberland, Vans and The North Face. The apprentices will soon complete their time at Vans HQ in Costa Mesa, CA and will then relocate to Denver, CO for three months with The North Face.

While in New Hampshire, one project had these talented designers share their vision of a Timberland boot for the brand's upcoming 50th anniversary, with the unique experience of having their prototypes produced. At the end of the rotation, with guidance and support from assigned mentor teams, each presented their final concept to senior leadership, who were duly impressed.

The DiverCity x DESIGN program is a key element of Timberland’s commitment to The Work of creating a more inclusive and equitable future, through design education and other community-building programs.
