May 6, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Freeport-McMoRan strives to improve the quality of life for people in the communities where it operates in the United States and around the world. As a result of Freeport-McMoRan’s efforts and those of other leading companies, the business community has helped to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water and protect the environment.

A new Business Roundtable report, “Create, Grow, Sustain: Celebrating Success,” highlights the remarkable results of the sustainability efforts of 150 companies, including Freeport-McMoRan, which are driving investment, economic growth and job creation – while simultaneously improving the communities where they work and live.

Here’s one example of how Freeport-McMoRan is ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come:

“Eleven of our operations maintain the Wildlife Habitat Council’s (WHC) “Wildlife at Work” certifications and five are certified as “Corporate Lands for Learning.” In Peru, our Cerro Verde operation was a recent nominee for the WHC’s Corporate Habitat of the Year award for its biodiversity management and education programs. Fourteen of our operations have created pollinator gardens not only to increase the diversity of nectar and pollen sources but also to provide communities with a setting to promote concepts of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.”
