SULPHUR, La., November 16, 2016 /3BL Media/ - CITGO Lake Charles Refinery employees recently raised 15 percent of the United Way SWLA regional goal of $4 million for the organization to provide essential programs and services to the Southwest Louisiana community. The funds were raised by CITGO employees during the refinery’s annual CITGO United Way campaign. The 2016 Give Today Change Tomorrow campaign took place on-site during September and October and raised a grand total of $621,266.32.

CITGO Petroleum Corporation employees contribute to United Way at each of the company’s refineries in Lake Charles, Corpus Christi, Texas and Lemont, Illinois. CITGO Lake Charles continues to be the largest benefactor of the United Way SWLA, having donated more than $14 million since 1975. Employees’ donations go directly to United Way and help support the 27 United Way agencies and 49 programs in the region that continue to make a huge difference in the quality of life of people. The campaign provides funds for the most pressing health and human service needs represented in Southwest Louisiana through the holiday season and into the New Year.

CITGO Lake Charles Refinery Vice President & General Manager Tomeu Vadell said CITGO employees give to United Way SWLA faithfully every year. “Our employees make it their mission to take care of Southwest Louisiana through supporting the programs and services United Way SWLA offers. CITGO employees are champions of our community and exemplify the CITGO spirit of generosity,” Vadell said.

President & Chief Executive Officer of United Way SWLA Denise Durel said it is partners like CITGO that allow United Way SWLA to create positive, lasting change across its region. “We are incredibly fortunate to have the continual support of the entire CITGO team,” Durel said. “Year after year, CITGO employees demonstrate how much they care about this community by donating their time, talent, and money to change lives right here in Southwest Louisiana.”
