Oil, coal, and power companies are looking at a 50 percent increase in climate and sustainable energy-related shareholder resolutions in the upcoming 2011 proxy season. That’s according to CERES, a coalition of investors and environmental organizations that directs the Investor Network on Climate Risk, a group of more than 90 institutional investors with over $9 trillion dollars of collective assets. Investors filed 66 such resolutions last week with 41 energy companies, making a total of 96 resolutions filed so far this year, up from 44 resolutions filed all of last year. Also last week, consulting group Mercer released a report finding that climate change could increase portfolio risk by 10 percent over the next 20 years.
