The Vodafone Foundation has launched the EU “Smart Accessibility Awards,” a competition to promote the development of IT applications designed to improve the lives of the elderly and those with disabilities. The competition will award the best smart phone applications in four categories: social participation, independent living, and mobility. Four winners will split the total award prize of $280,000. The program is supported by AGE Platform Europe, the European network of 150 organizations of and for people aged 50-plus, and the European Disability Forum, an NGO that represents 80 million Europeans with disabilities.
