EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Nov. 19, 2014 /3BL Media/ – DIRECTV, one of the world’s leading providers of digital television entertainment services, announced that it received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2015 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which is a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. DIRECTV now joins the ranks of 366 major U.S. businesses, which also earned top marks this year.

DIRECTV’s commitment to supporting the LGBT community led to the creation of OUT@DIRECTV, an employee resource group for LGBT employees and supporters, in January 2011. With OUT@DIRECTV’s involvement, DIRECTV has made many positive changes to its policies and practices to support an inclusive workplace. Today, DIRECTV:

  • Provides parity in all benefits and offers health insurance benefits to both domestic partners and same-sex spouses.

  • Includes gender identity and expression in its Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Harassment policy as an equal opportunity employer.

  • Supports employee development with inclusive portrayals of LGBT employees in training and guidelines.

“This is a momentous achievement for DIRECTV and we are so proud that our commitment to diversity and equality is being recognized by such a prestigious organization like the Human Rights Foundation,” said Joe Bosch, executive vice president and Chief Human Resources Officer, DIRECTV. “We applaud all of the hard work and dedication of our OUT@DIRECTV members this year and look forward to continuing to evolve policies and practices to help ensure an inclusive workplace for our current employees and the future of our company.”

The 2015 CEI rated 972 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. DIRECTV’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
