ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 6, 2014 /3BL Media/ -- Ecolab Inc., the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services, has been named to CDP's inaugural Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index (SCPLI) for its actions to mitigate climate change. This new index from CDP recognizes the best-performing suppliers in terms of the actions they are taking to address climate change, as disclosed to the CDP supply chain programs in 2013.

CDP is an independent not-for-profit organization that works to reduce the risks posed by climate change by encouraging nearly 6,000 of the world's largest companies to report on their climate change strategies, greenhouse gas emissions, energy use and water use. This is CDP's first Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index to recognize supply chain companies, from small and medium enterprises to global brands, for their climate management and performance.

"Ecolab recognizes the importance of sustainable business practices," said Emilio Tenuta, Ecolab vice president, Corporate Sustainability. "As a supplier to more than one million customer locations around the world, we are committed to transparency and environmental stewardship throughout our operations."

Ecolab has participated in the CDP supply chain program, which provided the data for this inaugural index, since 2009. Compiled by FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS) on behalf of CDP, this leadership index provides an evaluation tool for supply chain members and participating suppliers. Eighty companies from the supply chain program are represented in this year's SCPLI, based on analysis of the 2,868 responses to CDP's 2013 supply chain questionnaire.

In addition to providing customers with solutions that improve operational efficiency and environmental performance, Ecolab continues to implement strategies to further improve the environmental footprint of its operations. Recent initiatives have resulted in improved energy efficiency at the company's manufacturing facilities and fuel efficiency improvements in its sales-and-service vehicle fleet.

"Companies in the Supplier Climate Performance Leadership Index are demonstrating a clear commitment to manage their greenhouse gas emissions and take action on climate change," said
Paul Simpson , chief executive officer of CDP. "Organizations which work to reduce their emissions and integrate climate change issues into their business strategies have the potential for cost savings, revenue generating opportunities and, ultimately, a more resilient future."

In 2013, Ecolab also was named to:

  • CDP Global 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI)
  • CDP Global 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI)
  • CDP S&P 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI)
  • CDP S&P 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI)

In 2013, Ecolab was the only company in the materials sector to be named to both the CDLI and CPLI for both the S&P 500 and Global 500.
