CHARLESTON, S.C., December 2, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Gildan is proud to announce a donation of more than $33,000 to Susan G. Komen® Lowcountry, an organization that funds breast cancer research, community health initiatives, global outreach projects and public policy initiatives, in order to fight breast cancer on multiple fronts.

During October, Gildan in partnership with Mossy Oak, ran an in-store promotion throughout the United States selling over 235,000 packages of decorated socks promoting breast cancer awareness.  A portion of the proceeds of this promotion was pledged to breast cancer research and services. Gildan is a licensed partner of Mossy Oak.

“At Gildan, giving back to the communities where we live and work has always been important to us,” said Eric R. Lehman, President of Branded Apparel, Gildan. “Over the years, we have been dedicated to strengthening the health and wellness of members of our communities and contributing to this cause is one example of this commitment.”

“We are very excited about Gildan’s donation,” said Taffy Tamblyn, Executive Director at Susan G Komen® Lowcountry. “The donation from Gildan will most certainly be part of the Mission Dollars designated to be awarded in our Community Grants and Small Grants programs, which provides financial support for breast health information, mammograms, diagnostic services and transportation.”

The Susan G. Komen® Lowcountry organization serves over 800,000 women in 17 county service areas from Marion to Horry, down through Tri County Charleston, Beaufort County, Jasper and connecting counties.

About Susan G. Komen® Lowcountry

In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. The organization has invested more than $2.6 billion in ground breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Their efforts helped reduce death rates from breast cancer by 37 percent between 1990-2013 and their objective is to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50% within the next decade.

Susan G. Komen is the only organization that addresses breast cancer on multiple fronts such as research, community health, global outreach and public policy initiatives in order to make the biggest impact against this disease.
