Green Jobs Market Recovering From Recession

(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) December 10, 2010 - There are now increasingly positive signs that the ‘green jobs’ market is on an upturn. In the first eight months of 2010 - Acre, a specialist sustainability and environment recruitment company, has seen a 20% increase in jobs. 

  Acre believes the rise of new job opportunities in the UK has been the result of:

• The introduction of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme which enforces the measurement and accountability of organisations for their carbon emissions - creating jobs within energy management and energy efficiency. 

• The drive by businesses to integrate sustainability and take advantage of the opportunities it presents has created a number of senior level jobs.

• The UK Government pledging its continued support for renewable energy projects within the October budget announcements.

Acre’s Commercial Manager Beth Mitchell states: “Our business is being driven by legislation and stakeholder demand for organisations to become more accountable for their environmental and social impacts.  The positive influence this has is clearly reflected in the 41% increase in turnover over the last twelve months.”   Acre enjoyed their most successful quarter ever in July-September with a 66% increase in revenue in comparison to the year before.   Managing Director Andy Cartland says: “It would be untrue to say that the recession had no impact on our business last year, but in comparison to the decline that the recruitment industry as a whole observed, the dip we experienced was relatively minor. The positive upturn we have seen in the early part of 2010 is extremely encouraging and we predict from speaking to our clients and other professionals within the market that this rise will continue into 2011.”   Going forward Acre will benefit from the leadership and recruitment experience of Ian Nash who joined Acre as chairman and shareholder in August. Previously Nash played a key role in the development and expansion of recruitment giants Michael Page and Robert Walters and recognises the opportunities within the expanding green recruitment market. He said: “With an increasingly clear message from climate scientists, there can be little doubt that climate change is going to become an increasingly dominant business issue over the coming decade.
