ATLANTA, September 1, 2017 /3BL Media/ - Wells Fargo Housing Foundation has awarded Habitat for Humanity a $300,000 grant to support more than a dozen neighborhood revitalization projects that aim to repair and beautify common areas as part of an effort to build stronger communities.

“We have a long history of working with Habitat for Humanity to strengthen local neighborhoods and build better communities,” said Martin Sundquist, executive director of the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation. “In addition to providing grants, our team members volunteer to revitalize neighborhoods and create affordable and sustainable housing with families in need of a place to call home.”

Eleven local Habitats will receive a grant to implement revitalization projects, including neighborhood beautification and repairs to community common areas. These locations include San Francisco; Denver; Wilmington, Del.; Orlando and West Palm Beach, Fla; Macon, Ga.; Charlotte, N.C.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Rock Hill, S.C.; Houston; and Milwaukee.

The funding also will support two additional Habitat organizations in Santa Ana, Calif. and Savannah, Ga., in their efforts to develop formal plans for future neighborhood revitalization projects.

Neighborhood revitalization is Habitat’s approach to responding to community aspirations of reviving local neighborhoods and enhancing quality of life for current and future residents. Through strong partnerships with donors, volunteers and dedicated families, Habitat has been able to revive and rehabilitate more than 300 neighborhoods around the U.S.

“Knowing that our corporate partners are this committed to making a long and lasting impact on our local communities makes the mission of Habitat for Humanity much more meaningful,” said Colleen Finn Ridenhour, senior vice president of Development, Habitat for Humanity International. “It is through partnerships such as this project with Wells Fargo that we are able to make a difference in the lives of Habitat homeowners.”

The Wells Fargo Housing Foundation has donated more than $44 million since 2010 to Habitat locally and nationally, of which $14 million has supported national Habitat programs that bring people together to build strength, stability and independence through shelter.

About Habitat for Humanity

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
