International Society of Sustainability Professionals and the Green Sports Alliance Team Up to Host On-Line Webinar About Making Sporting Events More Sustainable

November 7, 2012 /3BL Media/ - Professional sports teams around the globe are embracing sustainability as part of their everyday business practices. What are some tips and strategies for how to successfully engage fans as well as stadium vendors in greening up sporting events? Join a panel of experts organized by the Green Sports Alliance to find out how professional sports teams and venues have saved millions of dollars in operating expenses, reduced their environmental impact, and inspired their fans to join in the effort.

The Webinar, hosted by the International Society of Sustainability Professionals, is scheduled for Wednesday November 14 at 11am Pacific Time/2pm Eastern Time for 75 minutes. It is free to ISSP members and costs just $10 for non-members to participate.

Presentations and a question-and-answer session are planned with:

  • Sissy Burkhart, Cleaning Operations Manager, Pittsburgh Pirates

  • Mary Ann Gettis, Manager, Marketing Initiatives, Philadelphia Phillies

  • Bram Reynolds, General Manager, Facilities, Global Spectrum @ Citizens Bank Park

  • Jami Leveen, Director, Marketing and Environmental Stewardship, ARAMARK

Sissy Burkhart will share information about the Pirates' "Let's Go Bucs. Let's Go Green" program that integrates greening initiatives, sustainable business practices and educational outreach. The program's launch in 2008 marked the beginning of a dedicated effort by the Pirates and PNC Park partners CB Richard Ellis, ARAMARK and Levy Restaurants to be more environmentally conscious in their collective efforts to go green moving forward.

Bram Reynolds and Mary Ann Gettis will present an overview of the Philadelphia Phillies’ "Red Goes Green" program, initiated in 2008. Mary Ann will describe the Phillies’ community efforts surrounding fan outreach efforts through the Red Goes Green Team, eCycle event with Waste Management, Home Runs for Trees with Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, as well as the Phillies' efforts aimed at engaging their employees in activities to support sustainable practices.

Jami Leveen of ARAMARK will speak about her company's goals as a concessionaire to make a wide variety of sustainability menu alternatives available to the fans while promoting and offering in-venue sustainable behavior such as recycling and composting along with proactive communications and employee engagement.
