ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Nov. 3, 2021 /3BL Media/ — In recognition of its commitment to climate action, LG Electronics has been named a 2021 Eco-Leader. This is the third consecutive year that LG has been awarded the coveted Eco-Leader distinction by Green Builder® Media.

Each year, the Eco-Leader program honors companies that have taken exemplary steps towards sustainability. In response to the increasing urgency of the climate emergency, this year’s focus was on decarbonization. As a 2021 Eco-Leader, LG joins a presitigous list of companies that are taking meaningful action to protect the environment by reducing emissions generated from manufacturing, transportation, business operations and product use.

LG’s high-performing, energy efficient products loved by millions of consumers across the United States represent a key element of the company’s decarbonization efforts. With ENERGY STAR, LG is helping consumers make a difference – with products that deliver energy savings, reduce emissions and help save money and protect the environment without sacrificing performance or style.

At the forefront of LG’s decarbonization efforts is the company’s Zero Carbon 2030 iniative, a pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions from global operations by 2030. In 2019, LG set its sights on reducing greenhouse emissions from its U.S. operations by 50-percent compared to a 2017 baseline by year-end of 2020. LG met this goal by mid-2019 with the help of energy efficiency upgrades, conservation and the use of more than 80-percent renewable energy across the country’s operations.

In 2021, LG reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by expanding on the Zero Carbon 2030 pledge, promising to transition to 100-percent renewable energy worldwide by 2050. Additionally, the LG’s new LEED Platinum Certified LG North American headquarters campus in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., received the 2021 USGBC Leadership Award from the U.S. Green Building Council.

“At LG, we believe we have a shared responsibility to create a sustainable tomorrow,” said LG Electronics North America President and CEO Thomas Yoon. “We are honored to once again be acknowledged with the Eco-Leader title for our continued efforts to reduce carbon emissions and take climate action through our business practices and the innovation of energy efficient technologies across all of our product categories.”

Green Builder Media CEO Sara Gutterman congratulated LG for being selected as an Eco Leader for the third year in a row. “It’s essential that we shift to a decarbonized economy as quickly as possible, and companies like LG are playing a pivotal role in that transition. We commend LG, and all of our Eco Leaders, for accepting the responsibility of making the planet a better place and creating positive change in the world,” she said.

From developing greener, more energy efficient products to implementing award-winning responsible e-waste initiatives, from eliminating hazardous substances to  transitioning to non-HFC refrigerants, LG is taking steps to help ensure that current and future generations have a healthy place to live, learn and work.
