ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., April 23, 2013 /3BL Media/ – A new poster contest* sponsored by LG Electronics USA invites local students to create exhibits for the LG Science & Environmental Learning Center, a key element of the company’s future North American headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J.

Kindergarten through eighth grade students in Englewood Cliffs, Englewood, Tenafly and Fort Lee schools are encouraged to participate for a chance to win cool LG prizes and to have their exhibit ideas considered by a panel of expert judges for the new LG science center.

“We’re excited to launch this new contest during Earth Week 2013 and to work with the community to integrate students’ ideas into our building project,” said I.D. Kim, the LG Electronics USA vice president overseeing the project. “LG’s new science center represents an important way for LG to give back to a community that’s been our home for the past 25 years. We look forward to partnering with the community to ensure that we are building an office park that can enrich lives and can be enjoyed by all local citizens.”

Between 8 a.m. ET, April 22 and 5 p.m. ET, May 24, local students in Englewood Cliffs and the surrounding New Jersey area will be invited to develop a poster illustrating an exhibit design that they’d like to see included in the future LG Science & Environmental Learning Center. The exhibit design should fit with LG’s “Discover Your Green World” theme and explore how consumers and families can help protect the environment at home or in the community through science exploration, discovery and technology.

A panel of community judges will select one winner per grade as First Place winners. One of the nine First Place winners will then be named a Grand Prize winner. Posters will be evaluated based on creativity/ingenuity, effectiveness of message, overall presentation and feasibility of implementation. Prizes for winning entries are LG products, including ENERGY STAR® certified LG Smart TVs and LED monitors, as well as LG home audio systems and mouse scanners.

LG Invests in Bergen County and Local Education

To further strengthen its 25-year partnership with Bergen County, LG Electronics is creating the LG Science & Environmental Learning Center in its new headquarters building, where local families, educators and school children will interact with exhibits that showcase future innovations and demonstrate sustainable living. The center will mirror a similar science center at LG’s headquarters in Seoul, South Korea where tens of thousands of school children visit annually for hands-on activities that allow them to explore the areas of math, science and technology.

This is part of an overall $300 million project to build its new corporate campus on a 27-acre site at 111 Sylvan Avenue.  The project is designed with green in mind and will include planting more than 700 local trees, creating gardens and a walking trail and incorporating design contributions from the community. This office park will accommodate more than 1,200 employees and will create hundreds of new constructions jobs and thousands of direct and indirect jobs as LG expands its workforce in the coming years. Construction is slated to begin this year.

The project’s green design embodies the company’s commitment to sustainability, with energy efficiency, water conservation and reduced carbon emissions.  LG aspires to achieve LEED Platinum status, the highest level of environmental certification bestowed by the U.S. Green Building Council. The new building also is a centerpiece of LG’s landmark sustainability agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and a key element of LG’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its U.S. operations by 50 percent by 2020.
