Omaha, Neb., October 3, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Grants from Lincoln Financial Foundation are helping individuals experiencing food insecurity and are providing other needed social services to the community’s poor and those at risk. Lincoln Foundation recently awarded $131,000 in human services grants to 10 local nonprofit organizations, a portion of $846,600 in charitable funds it has allocated to Omaha in 2013.

Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA) received $20,000 for its Bridges to Opportunity program, which moves women from multi-generational poverty to self-sufficiency. Other human services grants awarded include:

  • $30,000 to Food Bank for the Heartland to support its Weekend Food for Kids program, which provides nutritious, child-friendly food to elementary school children who are in danger of going hungry over the weekends during the school year.  This grant also will support the Family Packs program, which provides 25 pounds of staples that teachers share with parents or guardians who need additional assistance.
