Maytag Providing Support for California HomeAid Project
Energy-efficient appliances to be donated to new transitional housing village in Marin
October 12, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Maytag brand, a national corporate supporter of HomeAid America, has generously committed to contributing appliances to HomeAid Northern California’s Oma Village project, which will help families transition out of homelessness.
The project, which is under the direction of Builder Captains, Richmond American Homes and The New Home Company, is under construction and will be dedicated Oct. 19.
“Maytag brand’s incredibly generous contribution of appliances helps our service providers reduce their capital expenses, increase energy efficiency in their buildings and direct more funding toward programs and resources for their residents,” said Peter Simons, CEO of HomeAid America. “The Maytag national program allows HomeAid to leverage much-needed resources for homeless families and individuals as they rebuild their lives.”
Maytag is donating 45 appliances to the Oma Village project in Marin, California, which is operated by Homeward Bound of Marin. The new facility will offer 14 rental homes for working families who are transitioning out of homelessness.
Oma Village will include modern, energy-efficient units along with a community center that will be the hub of activities for children and families. Homeward Bound of Marin pursues a mission of “ending homelessness through training, housing and hope” to support residents as they work from crisis to stability to thriving. The agency operates a range of services for families from emergency shelter to transitional and permanent supportive housing. These product donations will greatly reduce construction costs and enable Homeward Bound to concentrate their limited resources on helping the residents.
In previous years, Maytag contributed appliances to HomeAid projects such as:
- Orange County’s Pathways of Hope project built by Shea Homes in California
- HomeAid Colorado’s Emergency Family Assistance Association project built by Village/William Lyon Homes in Boulder, Colorado
- HomeAid Atlanta’s Rainbow Village facility built by Harcrest Homes in Duluth, Georgia

In the United States, more than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year, of whom 80 percent are women, children and families who experience a life-altering event such as job loss, domestic violence, or medical conditions, as well as Veterans returning from war and youth aging out of the foster care system.
