BOSTON, MA, October 17, 2013 /3BL Media/ – CBS EcoMedia Inc. announced Plymouth Rock Assurance’s support of Fisher House Boston in connection with their participation in EcoMedia’s WellnessAd program. The program connects corporate sponsors like Plymouth Rock Assurance with tangible programs in local communities, like Fisher House Boston.

Plymouth Rock Assurance employees, along with Plymouth Rock independent insurance agents, visited Fisher House Boston today for a fun-filled day of volunteering. Volunteers spent the day cooking a meal and helping to clean and beautify the house and grounds for the enjoyment of all the families who need its safe haven. Financial support from Plymouth Rock will help to meet the basic household needs of Fisher House guests, allowing them to focus on providing a healing and supportive environment for their loved ones. Plymouth Rock’s support of Fisher House Boston was made through a WellnessAd media buy on CBS properties.

Fisher House Boston is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care in theat VA Boston Healthcare System. Because service members, veterans and their families are located worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, the Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. There are 62 Fisher Houses located across the United States and in Germany.

"Fisher House Boston is very grateful to all of the employees of Plymouth Rock Assurance for their generous donation," said Michelle J. Keating, President, Fisher House Boston Board of Directors. "It takes a community to keep Fisher House Boston a "home" to our military families while their loves ones are being cared for at the VA Healthcare System."

The Fisher House program began in 1990 and has offered more than five million days of lodging to more than 180,000 families. Fisher Houses can accommodate up to 40 family members and feature a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a spacious dining room, an inviting living room with a library and toys for children, and are 100% handicap accessible. The homes not only create an instant community for their residents, united by their common mission of supporting a sick or injured service member or veteran, but also provide each individual with a secure and private refuge after a long day at the hospital to rest and recharge. The family of any veteran or active military personnel is eligible to stay at the Fisher House free of charge while their loved one receives treatment.

“Community involvement runs deep at Plymouth Rock,” said Chris Olie, President and CEO of Plymouth Rock Assurance. “We believe very strongly in being an active member of the community where we live and work and it’s a source of great pride for our company. Fisher House Foundation and Fisher House Boston play an integral role in that community, and in the lives of the many military families that they support. We’re proud to be able to give back to the men and women who serve our country, especially when they find themselves in a time of need.”

“Fisher House comfort homes provide ‘a home away from home’ to families during trying times,” said Paul Polizzotto, President and Founder of CBS EcoMedia Inc. “It’s a privilege to have the opportunity today to express how deeply grateful we are to our nation’s service members, veterans and their families. Thanks to the generous financial support from Plymouth Rock Assurance through our WellnessAd program, military families in Boston will continue to have the refuge they so rightfully deserve.”

WellnessAd TV advertisements feature the WellnessAd symbol, a visible indicator that the advertiser is funding important, local health and wellness projects including fitness, mobile health clinics, nutrition and family comfort.

"Fisher House Boston is a much appreciated, important part of the care we provide to Veterans," said Vincent Ng, Director of VA Boston Healthcare System. "Loved ones are an essential member of the Veteran's treatment team, and this house allows families to be a part of that team. The outpouring of generosity from the employees of Plymouth Rock Assurance towards Fisher House Boston has been nothing less than overwhelming, and we are thankful to them for their support of this wonderful home-away-from-home."
