(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) May 12, 2011 - ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company, today announced the publication of its annual Corporate Responsibility report for 2010: Safe Sustainable Steel.


This report demonstrates the company’s commitment to improving its safety and sustainability performance in line with growing demand for its products from the recovering global economy. Highlights of the 2010 report included the launch of a dedicated Human Rights Policy, which is to be implemented across its operations as well as through its supply chain, and a reduction in the Group’s Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) reflecting the progress being made by the ‘Journey to Zero’ health and safety programme, which is a priority for ArcelorMittal.

Other key corporate responsibility highlights for 2010 included the following:

- US$347 million invested in energy-saving and environmental projects in 2010 – up from $224 million the previous year, which will help ArcelorMittal to achieve its goal to reduce emissions by 8 per cent per tonne of steel produced by 2020
- US$322 million invested into research and development in 2010
- The ArcelorMittal Foundation invested US$37.7 million across more than 585 local community projects in 2010
- ArcelorMittal, a member of the FTSE4Good index since 2007, was in accepted into the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Europe indices in 2010, evidencing the progress being made by the company in the areas of governance, social and environmental management.
