January 23, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Freshfields' 2013 Responsible Business Report is now available here.

The report outlines the achievements, challenges and progress for the year ending 30 April 2013, giving a detailed account of the firm's performance in five key areas: business ethics, people, pro bono, communities and the environment.

A key feature of the report is the firms newly formed Corporate Responsibility (CR) Advisory Board, comprising of Sir Nicholas Young, Sir Ian Cheshire and Polly Courtice LVO. They have provided commentary on it's progress and outlined areas for improvement. The Advisory Board adds a greater perspective to the firms strategic approach to CR and further increases its transparency.

Highlights include:

  • over 60,000 hours contributed towards award-winning pro bono and community investment volunteering programmes;
  • ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management;
  • inaugural Senior Partner's Volunteering Award;
  • won CR Programme of the Year at the UK Legal Business Awards; and
  • launched the Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship.

Gross carbon emissions have increased by 2 per cent since last year. In order to meet it's targets, Freshfields will be focussing it's efforts on reducing energy use globally. The firm remains carbon neutral and has offset their emissions from a global portfolio of projects, more detail of which can be found here.

The report has been independently assured by Deloitte LLP using the AA1000 AccountAbility Principles Standard and ISAE 3000. It is also fully aligned to the principles of the UN Global Compact and acts as its annual Communication on Progress (COP).
