Sodexo Named Industry Leader by DJSI; Balfour Beatty Construction Wins “Building Star” Award for Safety; Leonardo Academy Partners with UPS and Coca-Cola to Reduce Auto Emissions - CSR Minute for November 9, 2012
Sodexo has been recognized as the global sustainability leader in its industry segment by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes. The company’s programs include encouraging chefs to consider more sustainability seafood selections and zero-waste campaigns to reduce carbon footprints, and integrated management systems to provide sustainable energy and food service solutions that reduce client costs. This is the eighth consecutive year for the company’s award.
Balfour Beatty Construction has been awarded a “Building Star” award by the North Carolina Department of Labor for its outstanding health and safety practices. Carolina Building Star status identifies construction sites that have occupational injury and illness incidence rates fare below the state and national averages for comparable projects.
The Leonardo Academy has partnered with UPS and Coca-Cola to reduce auto emissions from older vehicles. UPS and Coke contributed $3 million to the project to help fund the replacement of 40 heavy duty diesel delivery trucks, administered through a grant from the EPA. The Leondardo Academy is a nonprofit that develops integrative sustainability solutions to make sustainability practical.
