Southern California Edison Publishes 2014 Corporate Responsibility Report

ROSEMEAD, Calif., Oct.19, 2015 /3BL Media/ — Southern California Edison (SCE) today published its annual corporate responsibility report, a wide-ranging recap of the utility’s activities and accomplishments supporting the societal and environmental well-being of the communities that it serves.  

This most recent report documents SCE’s 2014 efforts in such areas as public safety awareness, electric service reliability, environmental protection, customer service and empowerment, community involvement, employee volunteerism, workforce and supplier diversity, and technological innovation, among others.

“At SCE, we are committed to delivering on the company’s mission: to safely deliver reliable, affordable and clean energy to our customers,” said Caroline Choi, SCE’s vice president of energy and environmental policy. “This reports describes to our customers, our employees, and to all our stakeholders, how we go about fulfilling that mission: by respecting and enriching our communities and protecting the natural environment where we operate.”

Among the achievements showcased in the report:

  • Solar Energy: SCE delivered enough solar energy (2,692 gigawatt-hours) to its customers in 2014 to power more than 400,000 Southern California homes in for an entire year.
  • Greenhouse Gas Reduction (GHG): SCE’s GHG Emissions Intensity Factor (0.26 CO2e per megawatt-hour) was less than half the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s estimate for the average U.S. electricity provider (0.56).
  • Energy Efficiency: Over the last five years, the GHG emissions prevented by SCE’s energy efficiency programs were equal to removing 701,000 cars from California’s roads for one year
  • Supplier Diversity: SCE spent 45% of the company’s total 2014 procurement expenditures ($1.7 billion) with woman- and minority-owned businesses, and disabled veteran business enterprises (WMVDBEs)
  • Employee Volunteerism: Employees and retirees volunteered 192,427 hours in 2014 to local nonprofits, schools and community-based organizations
