Timberland and Lindt USA Join Forces on Community Supported Agriculture Program

April 29, 2016 /3BL Media/ - What do a leading global outdoor lifestyle brand and a premium chocolate company have in common? Their commitment to community. Timberland and premium chocolatier Lindt USA may seem like an unlikely pair, but the Stratham, New Hampshire neighbors have joined forces to provide their employees access to a Community Supporter Agriculture (CSA) program that will deliver all-natural pasture-raised, antibiotic- and hormone-free meat to their headquarters.

The six month CSA program is managed by Hurd Farm in nearby Hampton, New Hampshire. The farm, operated by Steve and Sheryl Hurd, is dedicated to raising the best locally grown meats available, and in 2005 the Hurds permanently preserved the farm by placing a conservation easement on the property. By using a rotational grazing and free-range program, Hurd’s cows and poultry have access to a fresh, green pasture every day during the grazing season. In the winter months cows are fed the farm’s own hay harvested from its fields, and Hurd’s beef is now 100 percent grass fed. Products available with the CSA membership include ground beef, steaks, ribs, roasts, pork chops, bacon, sausage, a whole chicken and a 14-18 pound Thanksgiving turkey!

By purchasing a "share" of the farm, participating employees at Timberland and Lindt are helping to ensure the farm continues to serve the community with outstanding quality foods. In return, the companies get to enjoy the all-natural and high quality meat from Hurd Farm. To date, 24 employees from Timberland and 9 employees from Lindt have signed up for the CSA program, which will start in June and conclude in November.

“We’re always looking for new ways to give back to our local community, and this program is a great way to support our neighbors at Hurd Farm and provide employees with access to quality organic foods,” said Gina Cappucci, HR business partner at Timberland. “This also comes at the perfect time, as we will begin planting our Timberland Victory Garden next month. Employees will be able to complement the organic meat provided by Hurd Farm with the fresh produce we plant right here at our headquarters.”
