(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) DENVER - March 28, 2011 - Xcel Energy recently recognized 14 Colorado businesses for their outstanding efforts to save energy at its annual Energy Efficiency Expo in Denver. Approximately 650 Colorado Xcel Energy business customers attended the event, which featured teams of energy experts from Xcel Energy and outside organizations to provide energy-saving ideas and opportunities for rebates and energy-efficiency study funding.

The awards honored commercial, industrial and small-business customers in Colorado for participating in Xcel Energy's 2010 energy-efficiency programs. Collectively, these companies saved more than 31 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 17,930 dekatherms of natural gas, which avoided production of more than 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide -- the equivalent of keeping 5,000 cars off the road for a year.

The theme of this year’s event was The Cost of Doing Nothing, emphasizing the fact that the cost to businesses associated with not implementing energy-efficiency measures can, over time, far outweigh the initial investment for these measures.

“Our customers’ commitment to energy-efficiency keeps growing each year and we are pleased to recognize their accomplishments,” said Jerome Davis, Xcel Energy regional vice president for Colorado. “These efforts have become a course of business for these companies, but we believe they still should be recognized for the commitments they have made to the environment.”

The 14 award recipients for efficiency are:

  • Highlights of the event included energy conservation workshops designed to help participants build an efficiency strategy to meet their energy-saving targets and lower their costs.
