NJ Action Team Captains Raise Funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society


BERGENFIELD, NJ—Action Team Captains from Bergenfield High School raised more than $1,000 with their annual “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The three-week-long campaign consisting of pizza and doughnut sales drew big-time support from the school’s faculty and student body.

Three Action Team Captains -- Sarah Hartwig, Zainab Ali and Hala Eshmaway -- also collected additional donations during their community’s weekly farmer’s market.

Action Team Captains From H-B Woodlawn Hold Fundraiser to Benefit Local Charitable Groups


ARLINGTON, Va.—Action Team Captains from H-B Woodlawn High School took advantage of “Pi-day” to hold a quick fundraiser that raised $150 in 45 minutes for local Virginia and DC area non-profits and rewarded donations with delicious pies.

Celebrated each year around the world, on March 14th, “Pi,” the Greek letter “π” is the mathematical symbol used to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.

Westlake Action Team Spruces up Disc Golf Course


With disc golf season approaching, the Westlake Action Team Captains spent a recent day sprucing up the local Rabbit Flats course by raking up brush and litter, spreading mulch and planting trees.

Former Major Leaguer Robert Fick stopped by to encourage the more than 20 student volunteers who were participating in their second community event of the 2015-2016 school year. They worked alongside the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

“Keep it up! This is what life is about, hard work and motivation for something you love,” Fick told the Captains.

Brunswick Action Team Captains Hold Clothing Drive for Homeless Vets


Action Team Captains from Brunswick High School spent January collecting much-needed winter necessitates, including jackets, sweaters, hats and gloves, for homeless veterans.

The project culminated with a visit by the student volunteers -- -- Stephen Backman, Will Bessey, Kimberly Brown and Jenna Bailey -- to the Maine Homeless Veterans Alliance, a daily safe space in Portland, Me., for the homeless that provides food, shelter, laundry services and counseling.

Trevor Plouffe Inspires Action Team Captains During Second Conference Call of the School Year


Joining the second Action Team conference call of the 2015-2016 school year, Trevor Plouffe stressed the importance of inspiring others to take active roles in their communities.

“From my grandparents to my parents, they’ve always been a big part of the community,” the Twins third baseman said. “Now, the Players Association makes it so easy to get involved.”

Action Team Captains dialed in from high schools across the country for the call and the Westlake High School Action Team of Thousand Oaks, Calif., was the featured high school.

This past weekend, Bautista joined the Action Team volunteers from George Steinbrenner High School in Lutz, Fla., at the Metropolitan Ministries of North Tampa where they were sorting donated food and presents for the underserved in the community.

This past Thanksgiving holiday, a number of Major Leaguers joined forces with their local Action Team schools in Florida, Maine, and New Jersey as they combined to give back to their neighbors in need.
