Albertsons Companies Foundation is awarding almost $14 million in grants from its Nourishing Neighbors community relief fund to local hunger-fighting organizations in areas their stores serve from coast to coast.
The grants include almost $4 million for 13 large grants to organizations across the United States as part of Nourishing Neighbors’ new innovation grant program, which awards grants up to $500,000 to organizations with innovative projects or new ideas for eradicating hunger.
Customers donated $9.3 million at checkstands in September to enable 37.5 million healthy breakfasts; company and customer donations have now topped $110 million in 2020

Thanks to the generosity of customers, the Albertsons Companies Nourishing Neighbors community relief fund raised a record $9.3 million in its September campaign to provide healthy breakfasts for children in need across its market areas. The funds – raised at the register and directed to local organizations in each store’s community – will enable 37.5 million breakfasts throughout the country.

Albertsons Companies’ Denver Division partnered with The Salvation Army in Aurora, Colorado to help get food to those in need during the Coronavirus pandemic. In honor of National Salvation Army Week, The Salvation Army collaborated with the Denver Division’s Albertsons and Safeway stores, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Aurora Town Center, and the City of Aurora to host one of the largest food distribution events in Colorado where 3,000 families received boxes of food and Albertsons and Safeway gift cards.
It is a great contribution to communities that Albertsons’ stores look to neighboring companies for temporary employees.
There is a real community spirit that has been sponsored by the Albertsons family of stores. The company made a commitment of $50 million to hunger relief across the more than 2,200 neighborhoods it serves…through its Nourishing Neighbors Community Relief campaign. This pledge came after the company already donated $3 million to its fund for neighbors affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
Commitment brings total hunger relief raised to $66 million; donations will remain local to aid food banks, children, seniors. Company’s Appreciation Pay for frontline associates extended to May 2.
