Workplace Giving and Employee Engagement Programs Provide Charities with Opportunities to Diversify Revenue and Maximize Fundraising

Harvey made landfall on August 25 near Rockport, Texas, as a Category 4 storm. A state of emergency has been declared in 30 counties, seven counties are under evacuation orders, and a major disaster declaration has been signed by the president. Several hundred thousand are without power, several thousand have been displaced to shelters, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing. America’s first major hurricane to make landfall since 2005, Hurricane Harvey is expected to stall for several days over southern Texas, leading to catastrophic flooding across the region.
While Central Florida has seen a 1% decrease in its overall student population and number of homeless students in the area, the number of children in the free-and-reduced lunch program has risen by 2%. More children than ever need essential tools (like No. 2 pencils, loose-leaf paper, and crayons) to succeed in school. A Gift For Teaching is committed to providing these students with a head start for achievement by equipping them with school supplies.
Employees should be encouraged to give through education and motivation. At the same time, reassure them that it is okay not to give. The campaign is ultimately about choice, which includes the choice not to give. Even the smallest donations are appreciated. Remember, employees that don't give this year, are potential donors for the next.
