Military spouses are the backbone of military families. Studies show that supporting military spouse employment and closing the military spouse un/underemployment gap not only strengthens our nation’s economy, but also improves military readiness.
But for military spouses who want to work outside the home, the frequent relocations common to military life can seem an insurmountable barrier to building and maintaining a career. As a result, many military spouses find themselves unemployed or underemployed.

Enjoying a day away from the office with a few hotdogs, cold drinks and a lot of sun makes for a great Memorial Day, but that isn’t exactly what the day is all about. In 2003, I left my family, friends, and future wife for an active duty deployment in the United States Army. In 2005, I left my wife of 1 month for a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq that would last over a year. Our Forward Operating Base (FOB) would often go on “Comms Blackout,” usually meaning a soldier on our FOB had been killed or seriously injured and their family was being officially notified.
Players were out in their communities in the days leading up to the Fourth of July honoring those who fought and continue to fight for our country.
Ben Revere, Clint Robinson, Sammy Solis and Blake Treinen of the Washington Nationals kicked off the activities with a Players Trust City Clinic benefiting children of active military members from the D.C. and Maryland areas at Andrews Air Force Base.
On Memorial Day weekend, people across the United States take time to thank those who serve and remember those who lost their lives while serving. D-Backs reliever Brad Ziegler makes it a year-round mission to honor servicemen and servicewomen.
Ziegler founded Pastime for Patriots whose mission is to honor all members of our armed forces and their families for their sacrifices to our country. PFP provides educationally based financial assistance to military children and family-friendly activities for military members and their families.
