Coral Gables, Fla., July 26, 2016 /3BL Media/ – For the second year in a row, Bacardi, Million Trees Miami and American Forests joined forces to plant trees in Miami-Dade County at as part of American Forests’ Community ReLeaf program to help beautify and restore urban neighborhoods.

As part of its annual Corporate Responsibility Month initiative to engage employees in community activities, the Bacardi team of volunteers came out with their sleeves rolled up, ready to plant 20 mahogany and oak trees at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah, Florida.

Tequila Cazadores Cuts Carbon Footprint

Bacardi-owned Tequila Cazadores has ditched fossil fuels and is now using discarded products made during production to generate energy through its new biomass boiler.

Located in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, the distillery’s new biomass boiler uses discarded parts of agave plants to power the site, making Cazadores 100% biomass-fuelled.

It may seem like a small thing, but single use plastic straws have a big environmental footprint. In fact, more than 175 billion straws are filtered into landfills and litter the oceans each year – and plastic straws rank no. 5 on the list of the top 10 items collected in the ocean, according to The Last Plastic Straw.

Plastic disposable straws are a tremendous source of pollution, with the equivalent of 125 school buses being filled daily with trashed straws in the USA. Bacardi wants people to refuse straws outright and has made several of its venues straw-free.

Plastic straws are directly linked to the spirits market, meaning Bacardi's drinks are often served with plastics straws that will eventually end up in landfills. This initiative aims to reduce waste by asking consumers to say no to plastic straws at the bar and at home.
