MLBPA Teams with A-Rod, MLB, New York State, Harlem RBI for Urban Youth Academy in the Bronx

The Players Association, its longest tenured member, Alex Rodriguez and Major League Baseball are joining with New York State and Harlem RBI in a public-private partnership to create the Roberto Clemente Urban Youth Academy in the Bronx.

Together, the MLBPA and MLB are contributing $4 million from their joint Youth Development Foundation to the project announced Wednesday (July 20) in which the existing baseball and softball fields at Roberto Clemente State Park will be renovated and programs developed to provide world-class baseball opportunities for New York City kids.

Drawing inspiration from the story about a shepherd named Santiago’s journey to fulfill his destiny, Archer created the Archway Foundation as a way to use his platform as a baseball player to positively impact lives.

The Archway Foundation’s mission is to help people bridge the gap between limitations and reaching goals. Archer employs this mission by teaching what he does best – baseball.

Sabathia and his wife, Amber, established the PitCCh In Foundation in 2008. With a mission to enrich the lives of inner-city kids, the foundation developed three signature programs – the All-Star Baseball Clinic, Youth Backpack Program and CC Holiday Caravan.

The signature programs remain in place today, but the foundation has grown beyond the scope of these programs.

Kris Bryant Donates 2015 Players Choice Award Grant to Wounded Warrior Project

In a pre-game ceremony Sunday afternoon, Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant received a prestigious Players Choice Award as the 2015 NL Outstanding Rookie.  Selected in a secret ballot of all National League players in recognition of his exceptional season, Bryant received his Players Choice Award from teammate Jake Arrieta.

In recognition of his outstanding performance in 2015, the Major League Baseball Players Trust will provide a charitable contribution of $20,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project as personally selected by Bryant.
