Plant marks milestone in international treaty obligations
RESTON, Va., June 24, 2019 /3BL Media/ - With the destruction, in a sealed chamber, of one World War II-era projectile loaded with mustard agent, a Bechtel-led team in Kentucky has begun eliminating the final stockpile of U.S. chemical munitions, bringing the nation closer to its goal of permanently eradicating the weapons.
On Thursday, May 9, representatives from Bechtel Innovate, along with a Bechtel university relations representative visited the University of Maryland in College Park, to take part in the university’s Clark School Department of Mechanical Engineering Design Day. Design Day highlights the talents and creativity of mechanical engineering students in the Integrated Product and Process Development Course. 33 teams of senior-level students presented project prototypes built to solve selected engineering problems.
One of the latest trends in energy is the mandate to increase the level of energy derived from renewable resources. As with many trends, a variety of challenges have arisen. Renewable resources, like wind and solar, have low-predictability because ‘they’re on when they are on’ and may not be available when called upon to satisfy immediate demand. Because of this, it’s difficult to match electric power demand and renewable based supply, which is important for both users and producers of electrical energy.
As part of Bechtel’s commitment to contribute 100 ideas to support the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we examine the use of virtual reality to enhance the participation of indigenous peoples on major projects.

I was recently reflecting on 2018 -- an end of the year ritual -- taking stock of the triumphs, challenges, and lessons learned before I begin to prioritize actions to further innovation and accelerate adoption in 2019. In search of inspiration, I found myself reviewing rankings published throughout the year; like “Fast Company’s” Most Innovative Companies of 2018.
