RESTON, VA, September 14, 2016 /3BL Media/ -- Bechtel has congratulated the workforce at the Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant on achieving a significant milestone—the initial processing of chemical weapons, bringing the U.S. a step closer to meeting treaty obligations to destroy its remaining chemical weapons stockpile. The milestone marks the first time that the Bechtel-led plant has handled mustard agent.

Javier Moya, a Bechtel project controls engineer, initially became interested in a STEM career because of his father. “Colleagues call my father an engineer amongst engineers,” he says. “He is passionate about the engineering field and about working with people. He enjoys the technical aspect of his professional above all else. He thrives on solving complex problems. That intellectual curiosity has been passed on to my brothers and me.” His parents encouraged STEM-related activities around their home, too.

Across the globe, about 1,200 new coal-fired plants are being proposed, with China and India together accounting for 76 percent of the proposed new coal power capacities.  Furthermore, even though the projected renewables share of the global energy mix by 2030 is expected to grow, fossil fuels will be a significant electric generation—about 44 percent. These trends show there is still more to be done if we are to achieve significant reductions in global carbon emissions.
