Monsanto Scales Up Ecosystems Training


In an effort to increase understanding of ecosystems and biodiversity internally, WBCSD member company Monsanto has recently decided to scale up Business Ecosystems Training (BET) for its Sustainability Champions Core Team and Environmental Affairs team. Until now, Monsanto had given BET to about 50 employees worldwide. New classes will be offered next year using an online training program adapted to the agricultural sector, and a special program for leaders across the organization.

Last week, Cisco launched its newest CSR program – Connected Healthy Children – Brazil.

Much of the Brazilian population lives far away from major cities, so distance can pose a real barrier for children who need specialized medical care. For example, 41 percent of all infants under age 1 and 90 percent of newborns with congenital heart disease are in remote areas.

Revamped Scrap Recycling in Piracicaba


A team at Caterpillar Brasil Ltd. (CBL) in Piracicaba, Brazil, has improved its recycling index through a number of improvements to its scrap disposal program. The name of the recycling area has been changed to Byproduct Central to better identify it as an area for materials that can be a source of revenue. The team also has found a new receiver for scrap, consolidated and organized the area where recyclables are stored, and identified additional materials that can be recycled rather than thrown away.
