Brooklyn school dedicates space for project-based sustainability science education

BROOKLYN, N.Y., May 11, 2022 /3BL Media/ - On April 27, Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School (BUGS) celebrated the official opening of its hydroponic farm-classroom. Representatives from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club and NY Sun Works joined school staff and students for the ribbon-cutting, classroom tour, and sampling of produce grown in the hydroponic classroom. The BUGS state-of-the-art hydroponic classroom engages 6-8th graders in hands-on, project-based sustainability science education.
After receiving tough yet constructive advice from the winning Morgan Stanley U.S. Strategy Challenge team in 2019, The Family Center, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit, turned short-term disappointment into a financially viable, winning plan to expand its healthcare offerings.

The Beginning with Children Mentoring programme is designed to support the personal, social, academic and career growth of high school students. Mentoring relationships with Barclays volunteers have been successfully established, dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential. The programme, now in its ninth year, has helped over 75 students from Brooklyn to graduate from high school and enroll into college, 85% of whom are from low-income families.
