In a plenary address at the BSR Conference 2015, Henri de Castries, Chairman and CEO of insurance company AXA, explored how resilience can help build a better world.
"Yes, it's true that the world is becoming more and more unpredictable," said de Castries. "But never have we had solutions at our disposal. Large companies can be part of the solution and not just passive observers."
This past week, New York was transformed into a marketplace of activity and ideas related to climate change and inclusive economic development, alongside Climate Week NYC and the UN General Assembly meetings, where the UN adopted the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Much of the world was watching this transformative moment for sustainability, which was also a pivotal opportunity for business action.
The adage “adversity breeds success” rings especially true for those of us in the sustainable business field. Through innovative solutions to complex global challenges such as climate change, human rights, and supply chain transparency, corporate sustainability leaders have successfully turned adversity on its head, helping accelerate progress for us all.
