June 1, 2015 /3BL Media/ - For the LNG Hybrid Barge project developed together with AIDA Cruises, Becker Marine Systems was honored on May 21, 2015, with the GreenTec Award 2015 of the DRV (German Travel Association) in the category “Travel.”

AIDAsol is the world’s first cruise ship powered during the time spent in port with environmentally friendly and low-emission electricity from liquefied natural gas, which is produced on the LNG Hybrid Barge. Currently the final tests are being conducted in the port of Hamburg.

May 5, 2015 /3BL Media/ - After its scheduled visit to the shipyard from April 21 to May 4, 2015 at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, AIDAdiva now offers even more attractive amenities on board.

Alongside routine classification and maintenance work, the AIDAdiva is now already the fourth ship in the AIDA fleet to be fitted with the first phase of a multi-phase filter system for the treatment of emissions. The so-called scrubber reduces sulfur dioxide emissions by around 90 percent.

In March 2015, Cyclone Pam devastated Vanuatu with winds up to 270kmh. About 165,000 people were affected and up to 90 percent of homes were damaged. Carnival Australia quickly responded to the call for aid and sent ships to help the community of Vanuatu who suffered from the powerful storm.

Four of five ships - Pacific Dawn, Pacific Pearl, Carnival Legend and Carnival Spirit - headed for Vanuatu with humanitarian aid onboard. On April 8 - a month after Cyclone Pam - Pacific Dawn arrived in Port Villa to provide further assistance.

Vila has been confirmed as safe for cruise visitors to return as a result of the determined recovery efforts that have been underway since the cyclone hit causing widespread damage.

Pacific Pearl will follow Pacific Dawn into Vila three days later with both ships continuing to deliver shipments of humanitarian aid including building material to support reconstruction efforts.
