Between homework, sports, club activities, part-time jobs and other after-school obligations, high school is a busy time in a young person’s life. So it’s not surprising that students take their free time very seriously.
Yet, every year thousands of these busy teens dedicate a portion of that valuable free time to give back to their communities under a nationwide program established in partnership by Major League baseball players and Volunteers of America. These students make up the Action Team.
I am currently a senior at my school and have been an active member of the Action Team since freshman year. My role as a captain is to plan and organize community service events for students and we do so almost every weekend.
Our school’s efforts include feeding the homeless, working at a food bank and distributing groceries to elderly low-income senior citizens. I also encourage other members of my community to become involved in serving those in need.
After years of building relationships with top universities and their sports teams, FOX Sports saw an opportunity to become more involved in the classroom. In 2008, the company launched FOX Sports University, an academic program that gives college students hands-on experience in the sports business. The current academic year is the largest yet for the program, which now offers courses at 27 schools across the U.S.

Sodexo Foundation created the Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships to reward students who are driving awareness and mobilizing young people to eliminate hunger across the country. Through this scholarship, Sodexo Foundation is proud to invest in the power of youth making a positive impact.

Michael dedicated his life to the caring of his family first and foremost, and to supporting workers’ rights.
