While maintaining its historic feel, the Michigan Theatre of Jackson is embracing a flair for the future.Consumers Energy has donated more than $230,000 in energy efficiency products since 2013, including replacing the theater's boiler for $195,000 in 2016.
Consumers gave more than $800,000 to 11 different historic buildings across Michigan to make them more energy efficient, company officials said. Besides Jackson's Michigan Theatre, this included a library in Mason, historical museum in Frankenmuth and courthouse in Ithaca.
Switch Data Center in Grand Rapids Would Be New Program’s First Customer
Consumers Energy is making good on its commitment to a clean Michigan future by working with large businesses -- including the new Switch Pyramid data center in West Michigan -- that want to be powered 100 percent by renewable energy.
The Michigan utility announced today that it is proposing a program to allow large businesses to match their energy use with renewable energy sources. The energy provider is asking the Michigan Public Service Commission to approve its plan.

JACKSON, Mich., May 11, 2017 /3BL Media/ – Consumers Energy has been named Michigan’s best employer in a new ranking from Forbes magazine of the best places in America to work.
Consumers Energy ranked 62nd overall in Forbes’s list of America’s 500 best employers, a comprehensive list of companies from all industries across the nation. The publication’s third annual ranking is based on anonymous surveys of almost 30,000 American workers who were asked questions that included how likely they were to recommend their employer to friends or family.
A piece of history for Consumers Energy and its hometown came back to life last week as community members in Jackson, Michigan, unveiled a 9-by-28 foot stained glass mural that used to be part of the company’s former headquarters.
With Arbor Day being celebrated on Friday, Consumers Energy is reminding Michigan residents to choose the right tree for the right place as they plant and to always call MISS DIG 811 before putting a shovel in the ground. “Spring is a great time of year to plant trees and do work around the house. We want to encourage people to plant the right tree in the right place and to dig safely as they carry out tree planting projects,” said Guy Packard, Consumers Energy’s vice president of electric operations.
