GM’s Saginaw Metal Casting Operations Leads the Way on LEDs

New lighting project at the facility saves money and energy usage.

Did you know that LED lights have a lifespan and electric efficiency seven times better than regular incandescent lights, and considerably better than fluorescent lights?

Energy engineers at General Motor’s Saginaw Metal Casting Operations do, and now they’re reaping the benefits in both energy and financial savings. In just the first year of installing LEDs, the facility has saved more than $250,000 and enough energy to power 253 homes for a month.

July 7, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Consumers Energy’s hydro properties will have more housing options available for bats thanks to a Boy Scout and electric car parts from General Motors.

For an Eagle Scout project, Matthew Netherland and some helpers built 22 bat boxes out of scrap Chevrolet Volt battery covers donated by GM which Consumers Energy will install on their property.
