OSCODA – The public got a glimpse of the inter-workings of the Foote Dam Hydroelectric Plant, Saturday, during a centennial celebration held over the weekend.
Consumers Energy allowed 240 visitors to tour the dam at no cost on Saturday, Aug. 11, for 30 minute guided tours.
Built in 1918, Foote Dam was named after William A. Foote, the founding father of today’s Consumers Energy in 1886. The dam is responsible for supplying electricity to thousands of people all over the state of Michigan.

Pro race car driver Joey Logano will help promote safe digging by driving a vehicle with the national 811 logo during the Consumers Energy 400 NASCAR race on August 12 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
Michigan is moving ahead of other Midwest states as its two largest utilities propose a combined $20.5 million investment in electric vehicle infrastructure.
A key aspect to the three-year plans from DTE Energy and Consumers Energy is incentivizing EV drivers to charge at home during off-peak hours at night. With preliminary data so far, the utilities say that with more customers driving EVs, program incentives could drive down rates for all customers by millions of dollars.

Over 40 Consumers Energy employees, residents and police officers hit the streets to help a neighborhood in Consumers Energy’s hometown of Jackson, Mich., on Thursday night – the start of an effort to promote public safety and a strong community.
The Light Up the City Jackson campaign aims to strengthen city neighborhoods, with volunteers going door to door to hand out energy efficient light bulbs. Homeowners are encouraged to turn on their lights at night to help deter crime and promote civic engagement.
