It’s been a week since #GivingTuesday 2017, and we’re still overwhelmed by the incredible participation of companies – and their people – in this global movement.
From individual giving to companies mobilizing their workforces, #GivingTuesday broke records again. People and companies around the world harnessed the power of prosocial behavior and the reach of social media to come together around the values of giving back, raising a staggering $264.6 million worldwide in its sixth year.
Natural disasters cost billions in infrastructure repairs and claim tens of thousands of lives each year. In 2016, there were 91 weather, climate or geological disasters in the U.S.—including severe storms, hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, heat waves and droughts.

This year, nearly 10,000 people around the world harnessed data science principles in a massive effort to improve the detection of lung cancer – the deadliest, and most common cancer. The third annual Data Science Bowl, hosted by Booz Allen Hamilton and Kaggle, challenged data scientists to help medical professionals detect lung cancer earlier, and with better accuracy.
