Each year, Girl Up –an initiative of the United Nations Foundation – hosts a Leadership Summit to empower girl leaders worldwide to achieve gender equality and catalyze social change. When this year’s activities went online for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Booz Allen was there as an event partner, joining panel discussions, and serving as facilitators and mentors during a STEM boot camp.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, employees worldwide have been dealing with a broad range of circumstances, challenges, and needs. Some struggle to balance their childcare, school, and their day-to-day jobs while others grapple with isolation. Throughout, people with marginalized identities—in particular, people of color—have experienced disproportionate health impacts and a higher death rate, as well as the effects of structural racism and systemic discrimination.
Gildan’s continued partnership with Room to Read to support girls’ education and literacy
As part of its commitment to creating stronger communities, Gildan aims to support education in the regions where it operates, and a crucial factor behind the Company’s efforts lie in promoting more inclusive systems which support gender equality in the classroom. This is especially important across regions located in the Global South, where girls often face more barriers to accessing education.

For many of Booz Allen’s LGBTQ+ employees, military service is another important part of their identity. Founded by a veteran and with veterans representing one-third of its employees, Booz Allen proudly supports its LGBTQ+ military employees—this Pride month and every month. Two of their stories follow.

From accessing healthcare to introducing a new name and pronouns at work, transgender individuals can experience many challenges on the journey to their authentic selves. A strong support system can make those challenges easier.
In early June, as thousands protested in the streets against deep and long-standing injustices in society – spurred by the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and countless other people of color – Booz Allen launched its annual LGBTQ+ Pride celebration in solidarity, fueled by a desperate desire for change.

April is Celebrate Diversity Month. But Booz Allen has been making inclusion a priority year round through its Unstoppable Together series.
On a recent cloudy Saturday morning, the pathway to Georgetown’s iconic Healy Hall was brightly peppered with colorful balloons and welcoming shouts of “We’re so glad you’re here!” This was Georgetown University’s 7th annual OWN IT Summit, a student-run event aimed at connecting millennial students with female leaders through compelling conversation, workshopping and panel discussions.
