El Abra, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Provides Free Technical Training for Chileans

December 12, 2019 /3BL Media/ - Minera El Abra, in partnership with the Mining Talent Veins program of Fundación Chile, and with the support of the Municipality of Tocopilla, provided free certified training in welding and solar panel installation. The goal is to increase the employability of community members.

The courses provide theoretical and practical knowledge in welding. Participants are also trained in the assembly and maintenance of photovoltaic solar installations and quality and safety regulation compliance.

October 17, 2019 /3BL Media/ — Thanks to a new tire renewal program, Minera El Abra, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan, was recognized for reducing its CO2 emission by 53 tons – or 35 percent.

The program, developed by KalTire Chile, helped El Abra reuse 31 mining equipment tires in 2018, which eliminated the need to produce 26 new tires.

El Abra recently supported the publication of the first National Atlas of Nesting Birds of Chile, a project carried out by the Network of Bird and Wildlife Observers of Chile.

The network received more than 675,000 pieces of information about the reproductive habits and distribution of 331 bird species from more than 1,800 volunteers.

Chile supports a wide range of breeding and migratory birds that draw birdwatchers from around the globe.
