Ingrained in Acre’s DNA is a strong sense of purpose – we aspire to catalyse social and environmental improvements though our activities. In 2020 we celebrate the opening of our Amsterdam office, augmenting our existing presence in London and New York. An enhanced presence in Europe represents an opportunity to increase our global impact.

This past November, over 600 investors, entrepreneurs and professionals from the world of finance, nonprofit and public policy, converged upon the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, Canada. They were assembled for the annual Social Finance Forum (SFF19), which I attended as a participant; as well as, moderator of the Purpose & Impact panel in my role as Board Chair of Social Value Canada.
Beyond improving the lives of patients through medical technology, Medtronic is committed to making the world a healthier place and strengthening communities around the world. We have given more than $1 billion throughout the years to support philanthropic efforts, including support of the Medtronic Foundation.

Global retailer’s decade-long programme is empowering women in the workplace and at home by building their technical, social and financial management skills

Launched in 2007, Gap Inc.’s P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement) programme was initially created to support women working in the global apparel industry and has expanded training to new locations such as schools, universities, and other manufacturing communities. The company currently operates P.A.C.E.
As the global population increases in a climate-stressed world, we face mounting challenges. On the one hand, cities consume close to 65% of the world’s energy and generate more than 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions. But on the other, they drive economic growth and account for 80% of global GDP. They are home to over half of the world’s population.
Happy New Year! I hope that wherever you are in the world, and however you choose to celebrate the holiday season, that you are entering 2019 rested, re-energized, and with a clear sense of mission. As I’m sure some of you did as well, I took a bit of time for reflection over the last few days. We get so busy in our day-to-day work that I’m always thankful for those quiet moments and the opportunity to take stock and look forward.
