Freeport-McMoRan awarded grants totaling $577,700 to the Green Valley/Sahuarita community in Arizona.

Recipients were selected by the Green Valley/Sahuarita Community Investment Fund (CIF), overseen by a committee of community leaders assembled by the Freeport-McMoRan Community Partnership Panel, to identify and address community needs in health care, education, environment, economic development and transportation with positive, sustainable solutions.

October 14, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Climax Molybdenum Company granted $20,000 to the Buena Vista Boys & Girls Club of Colorado for a summer lunch program.

“Every day, the kids had a healthy, sustaining meal,” club executive director Brian Beaulieu said. “The kids were more focused, more attentive.”

This was the first summer the club had a fully funded, free lunch program. Meals were offered from June 2 through Aug. 8, serving 1,645 meals to 118 different children.

Maria’s journey of service began with a bang – the sound of boxes of macaroni and cheese made hitting the dumpster as they were reluctantly thrown out after reaching their expiration date. Maria knew if a system existed for food banks to reach out to each other for surplus or needed food, there would be much less food going to waste. From this idea, she co-created M.E.A.N.S. (Matching Excess And Need for Stability), a database approved for trial in Iowa and South Dakota that does just that.
