HIGHLANDS — Despite being within sight of Sandy Hook Bay, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6902 experienced minimal flooding over the years.

Superstorm Sandy brought the water level inside the post as high as the bar stools, shuttering the Highlands meeting place for weeks, member Donald Manrodt said.

With Veterans Day approaching, more than a dozen volunteers with Verizon and HGTV did their best on Friday to revamp the post.
