What should we do to make our company a better place to work? Bloomberg is known as being at the forefront in creating a positive work environment, and during his visit to Japan, we sat down for a conversation with the company’s chairman, Peter Grauer.
The words and definitions used in the LGBT community are ever-evolving and often mean different things to different groups. Proper use of this vocabulary is especially important as language is a powerful tool that can help form connections and foster a deeper understanding of the LGBT community and its allies.
Continuing Bloomberg’s commitment to a diverse and open workplace, and in celebration of Pride month, here’s our version of the LGBT glossary. Take a moment to learn some new terms, and turn your pride into action.
If you have been watching Bloomberg TV recently, you may have noticed more women appearing on the network. Mr Grant Coombe was instrumental in effecting that change. In six months, the 43-year-old sales manager of Bloomberg LP Singapore increased women's presence by 97 per cent in a Women's Voices movement. The head of Bloomberg's global and Asia-Pacific key accounts is an advocate for the media to represent a diversity of voices.
Over the past few years, the trans* agenda has really made its way to the fore. Of all the LGBT+ communities it has historically been the least discussed and understood, and even as recently as 5 years ago, references to binary and non-binary gender identities were unheard of. However the rise in inclusion within popular culture has really helped increase awareness of the trans* community and the challenges it can face.
