ING Run For Something Better® promotes kids fitness, fights childhood obesity
More than 700 local kids to participate in fun run on Thursday, Sept. 13
Olympian Rod Dixon to encourage, motivate children on race day
(3BL Media) Septeber 6, 2012 - For hundreds of Philadelphia children, the first step toward a healthy future takes place at the start line of their very own marathon at ING KiDS ROCK, where they learn physical fitness can be a fun part of their day.
Imagine thousands of anxious, screaming kids amid the backdrop of Sea World. That was the scene Saturday, June 2, 2012, for ING KiDS ROCK San Diego. Kids in grades K–7 participated in a one-mile, non-timed, non-competitive “fun run” to combat childhood obesity. They became “marathon finishers” by completing 25.2 miles of a 26.2-mile marathon at their own pace in the weeks before the event with guidance from parents or teachers using the Official ING Run For Something Better® Training Guide.
Guess what? Kids love running in the rain just as much as they love playing in the snow! It was evident at ING KiDS ROCK D.C. on Friday, March 16, at the D.C. Armory’s Parking Lot 6. The rain couldn’t stop nearly 800 kids in grades K-7 from running their final one mile. “It’s awesome that these kids can boast about being ‘marathoners’ — not something a lot of adults can claim,” said Dr. Andy Baldwin, U.S. Navy physician and ING KiDS ROCK and ING Run For Something Better® ambassador.
* Nearly 1,000 local kids to get moving and get healthy on Friday, March 16, at 5:30pm * Olympian Jim Ryun, Dr. Andy Baldwin, sportscaster Bonnie Bernstein to attend * Late registration available at Health & Fitness Expo
